An essential course for anyone who deals with children on a professional or voluntary basis. The course fully complies with the requirements of OFSTED for the first aid training of childminders. Course duration: 12 hours.
Course contents:
- Management of the Unconscious Casualty
- Causes of unconsciousness and recovery position adult, child, infant
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) adult, child, infant
- Blood loss and shock in babies and young children
- Burns and scalds
- Choking
- Foreign bodies - eyes, nose, ears
- Bites and stings
- Poisons - medicines, tablets, chemical, plants, corrosives, fumes, alcohol, solvents
- Recognition and treatment of fractures
- Miscellaneous conditions/ common ailments - epilepsy, febrile convultions, diabetes, asthma, chicken pox, measles, meningitis, sickle cell
- Temperature, pulse and respiration
- Administration of medication
- First aid kits and record keeping
- Open session to discuss subjects chosen by delegates
- Performance and knowledge assessments take place throughout the course
